The Children gain a hands on experience with the lifecycle of the chicken, from egg to Chick!
They wait patiently for the eggs to begin hatching and the excitement between Children, Parents and Teachers runs through the centre.
Everyone gets involved and at some point during the day we all get to experience watching a small chick appear out of the egg.
Through this process we all gain a hands on experience with nature.
We have learnt many different things from hatching chicks but maybe most importantly we have learnt that once a small chick cracks their egg shell they can sleep for 12 hours before they finish hatching.
Our Children are able to hold the little chicks once they are dry and fluffy, they understand the chicks are little babies and need sleep so at the beginning they can only hold them for short periods of time, the children are taught how to hold them gently.
We all enjoy having the little chicks hatch in our preschool, it provides an opportunity for everyone to learn and explore and the Children enjoy sharing their knowledge they gain with their families.
Families can take the chicks home for the weekends and when they get big enough they will live outside at Preschool.
