Our Educational Programme
We plan our curriculum around the needs and interests that emerge from the daily lives and experiences of the children and adults in the programme.
Each child learns in his or her own way; at Albany Community Preschool your child will enjoy a balance of directed and self-initiated discovery in the daily programme.
Our programme ideally builds on each child's current needs, abilities and interests, ensuring that at Albany Community Preschool your child will be encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for his/her learning.
A special feature of the educational programme at Albany Community Preschool is the Extension Group for 4.5 year olds.
Excursions
At Preschool we arrange excursions/trips once a term for the children to visit places of interest e.g. Butterfly Creek, Auckland Zoo, Kelly Tarlton's, the local Fire Station and Farm Park.
Travel is by bus and parents are invited along as Parent Helpers to ensure that we adhere to our trip ratios of 1 adult to 3 children.
Children's Portfolios
Children's individual portfoilios record their learning journey through Albany Community Preschool.
Staff observe children, assess their progress and record outcomes.
The following documentation is included in a child's portfolio: learning stories, assessments, photos and examples of children's work.
Parents/caregivers/whãnau are encouraged to add their own feedback and observations relating to their child's learning.
Extension Group
The "Globug" Extension Group is an integral part of the educational programme offered at Albany Community Preschool during the morning session.
This Extension Group is for all children over 4.5 years who work in a small group (6 - 7 children) with an educator.
The programme offered in this Extension Group fosters the exploration of all curriculum areas giving children in the group the opportunity to increase their competence in early literacy, numeracy and technology.
Staff and parents believe that the Globug Extension Group has been successful in assisting children in their transition to Primary School.
